   | 230. Owner: Bill Davenport, age 17 Location: Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada 1976 Pacer "The orange of the picture looks a little light compared to the cars actual color. I bought the car as is for $1500 Canadian. I bought the car new door panels and installed a cd player. The story behind the car was that it was stolen and sat on a police lot for a long time, leaving it with low miles and excellent shape.   | 233. Alex Rogers found this brown wagon in a parking lot in Hershey, PA. Jerry Casper later commented, "I'd forgotten I drove it there, it wasn't on the road much longer due to leaf spring weakness and eventual breakage at the 2001 Cecil county show.   | 239. "This is my 1975 AMC PACER X. The motor is replaced with a 258 straight six, 2 barrel from a AMC Jeep. Aluminium rims, with BFGoodrich tires, some tint, new paint, and a boomin' stereo.      | 240. Tom Are Wold submitted these pictures to show his progress in the restoration of his Pacer. "First phase. After my brother bought the Pacer we started to dismantle the interior and most parts in the front to remove rust. This picture was taken during the paint job I did on the floor of the Pacer in '93. "New paint. This picture was taken during the paint job in '93. My brother wanted to change from G7 alpine white to G9 medium blue metallic. I’m going to change it back again. "Winter storage. The first winter after my brother bought the Pacer we needed some sort of shelter. We built a wood frame with a tarpaulin around in the front yard of my parents house. If you look closely you see the headlight of the Pacer on the right side. It has been stored inside every winter thereafter with one exception. "Out of winter storage. This picture was taken in the spring of '94 when me, my brother and his fiancée removed the winter storage. On white cars it is very easy to spot the bad places. Some welding has been done on the rear but more to come. "Engine out. This picture was taken in October '98 when me and my friend removed the engine. We did struggle a bit to get it out. My friend took the picture of me before we lifted the rear of the transmission and cleared the car. (We are working outside my garage. Garages here are all too small for a wide car like the Pacer. While inside, it is only possible to open one door a foot. In the back you see our blue house. "My '76 Pacer was bought in '77 by a neighbor. In '93 after the neighbor passed away and my brother bought it. Short time after we switched cars and I was a Pacer owner. After fixing the most urgent and needed things, I used the car for about a year mostly '94-'95 to and from university. It was then put aside for several years. I have now started with a restoration of the car but it will take some time. "The Pacer appears to have been imported directly from US in '76 and not through any dealer in Norway. It is a '76 base model with only PS and disc brakes as extras. It has now reached the mileage of 56k." "I believe this Pacer was sold new in the US because it has a speedo with miles, not kilometers, and as far as I know, only D/L models PS, PB, etc. were sold new in Norway. It also has a typical US dealer sign saying Ruckle Younkers. Has there been an AMC dealer with this name?  | 242. "Here's a picture I scanned of a Pacer keychain that once held they keys to the '77 wagon my mom used to own. The leather is a little worse for the wear, but you can see that it's a '77 wagon depicted on the metal.      | 245. "Well, here is my nearly complete 1976 former Pacer / DL. It took six cars to build this one aside from all the modifications to the sub-frame & chassis. The engine is a 468 cu. in. big block chevy, with a th350 auto trans, and a narrowed 9" Ford rear. In some respects I don't feel too badly about the other-than-AMC parts, because AMC used ford starting systems and Chrysler drivelines. The 232/252 were much like a chevy six cyl. Now that should get a scream from all the AMC purest buffs! I apologize. The car should (I hope) make the Northwest AMC gathering in August 2001. "Stats: AMC Pacer"I have already taken many jest filled statements. No one can believe it's a street car. This car was built for under $10,000 dollars. In today's hot rod market it is practically unbelieveable. I'm amazed more people haven't found there way to these little wide boys! They offer comfort, style, stability, visibility and you can design anything you want wagon, pickup, convertible or coupe. Best of all it not a Ford or Chevy, which are in abundance. I know; I also have other street rods. By the way, in 1975 I bought my first Pacer, in Old Bridge, NJ -- cost $3500." -Robert in Spokane, Washington Originally submitted 1 May 2001. 29 July 2001 Update: "Just a follow up on my Pro-Street Pacer. It is now complete, and I have won several awards with it at some local shows and was invited to bring it to a show put on by Sears, in north Spokane, WA. I've also been selling parts from the six Pacers it took to build mine. To assist in recalling my car it is a 1976 formerly a D/L-model coupe. It is now powered by a 468 cu.in Chevrolet Big Block, backed by a TH-350 trans, and a narrowed 9'in Ford posi-rear end. I have 40 inches of rear tire on the ground. The paint is PPG-Tangerine Pearl Translucence, the graphics are done by a local artist, the paint and interior by me." -Robert 8 November 2001 Update: "Just a little more information: We took it to the AMC Northwest Nationals, Everett, WA and won second place in the custom class and first place in most unique. All voting was done by people's choice! Plus, at Coeur D' Alene, ID, we won first place once again people's choice. The car is great fun for everyone!" -Robert |

Sorry this one is so crooked and out of square, the copier operator mussed it in the reduction process I figure. I also have a few other drawings on the net, at cinematour.com, type my last name in the search box and they should come up.        | 250. Bastian Bornemann submitted these photos of their perfect red Pacer, one of five Pacers they own. (See their other entry in the archives to see photos of three of their other Pacers.) Said Bastian: "Perhaps you're interested in our newest project. Well, first we just wanted to change the transmission on our '76 Pacer hatchback. It is perfectly painted in maple red, with maple red interior. it had the 258 cui 6 inline with non-overdrive transmission. The engine ran perfectly, but the transmission didn't wanted to stop the car when we wanted, lol. So, the car waited for about 2 years without driving. About 2 years ago we found a '78 pacer V8 in silver/red. the body was so rusty I have never seen it before, but the engine ran like new. So we took the red Pacer and the silver one, and....??? Silver V8+ red 258 = 1976 perfect Pacer 304 V8, the only one in Germany, ha! You can see it for yourself on the pics. We didn't just changed the transmission... the complete underside is painted, matching the body's color." Submitted 2 November 2001. |
