Touching up Silver Trim

Charles Patterson relayed this message from John Elle about touching up silver trim to the AMC Pacer list.

From: Charles Patterson

I was just mentioning to another member of this list about touching up
plastic lenses. and look what got posted.

Subject: Paint Marker in Silver, for faded out trim.
Date: Fri, 27 Aug 1999 14:06:08 -0700
From: John T. Elle

To whom it may concern,

Having the need to freshen up the silver high light trim on on plastic
places like the grill of 68-70 AMX's and other years, the silver
highlights on the side markers on the rear of my Spirit and the silver
highlights on the Dash of my Spirit, all plastic pieces and I am sure
there are other places.

After much searching I found a product made by Testors, the model car
paint people, called the Testors, All - Purpose Paint Marker, in
Metallic Chrome Silver Number 2546C. It looks like a Magic Marker with a
cap and all, and a chisel tip for wide and narrow applications. They are
available where the paints for model cars are displayed. Check craft
stores and better hobby shops. Names of craft stores in my area,
Michaels, and Ben Franklin's. The bigger hobby shop I went to had all
colors but silver for some reason. They do come in different colors.
Cost was about $3.00.

I was able to freshen up the appearance of my rear side markers and the
bright trim highlites on the dash in about 1 1/2 hours. If you are some
what spasdic, as I am, trying to control shakes and sloppys, keep plenty
of Q tips around, a soft cloth and some paint thinner for clean up. That
is what took about 1 1/2 hours. It is filled with enamel paint and
worked real well so far.

Have a good AMC day
