Ron's Pacer 1
Ron's Pacer 2
101. "This is absolutely amazing that I found these Pacer pics. Ron Chandonia has a public service offering free 'Consistent Life Ethic' bumper stickers. Now, when I saw this site, I immediately requested one for the Pacer, as these are causes I emphatically support, even though ol' Ron and I are on FAR different sides of the political (and even religious: I'm Lutheran, he's, um, humanist) spectrums: as witnessed by my other bumper stickers!! I told him about the Pacer and he said he had one once...I emailed him a link to your site, and...I'll let Ron tell the story:
"WOW! A *Pacer* page?!? And it looks great. And there are other ones too Never, ever would I have thought to search for a Pacer page, but it was sure fun to find one.

"Our '75 Pacer was itself hard to find back in '74 when we bought it. It was one of those "car of the future" cars, and so I decided to go with the only color in stock, baby blue, when we really wanted something sportier. (We traded in a very well-worn '69 "Big Bad Orange" Javelin.) The baby blue was the least of that vehicle's problems. Mileage was the real killer, and by the time it met its fate, we were stopping to get gas on our way to buy gas.

"Our few pictures date to its days as a new Javelin. I'm attaching a couple, one of me and my wife and our older son (he's a biophysicist now) standing by the car's side, the other of that same son enjoying the hatchback. (In that picture, the dealer tag is still on the car.)

"Thanks for a trip through some fond memories.

"Ron can be reached via his website. If you're interested in the bumper sticker, regardless of your other beliefs, follow the link under 'Beliefs' to Consistent Life Ethic page. And you can check out the rest of Ron's site, too... interesting fella." -Tim Hansen

Douglas Little's valiant rescue
103. "These are pictures of my '76 Pacer that I rescued from certain death in a junkyard near Sampson County. It is Bamboo Yellow, but I am thinking about changing the color. Any ideas? I hope to send you some 'after' pictures once I get a title for the car." -Douglas Little
Expo Pacer
104. "Here is a picture of one of my pacers. It is a 1975 Pacer X and was the first Pacer in Holland, Europe. It was flown in by plane to be on a car expo. It was equipped as a rescue car. I will send you [another] photo if I can find it At that expo I saw the pacer for the first time and, as a lover of rare cars, I liked it. At that expo, 25 Pacers were sold. The years after only a few more followed. Surprise, surprise... I found that same car of the expo and bought it in 1978. A year later, on a boring Saturday, we put a saw in it and gave it a paint job. In the picture you can see the result. It ever reach 'drivers rides' in the magazine TRUCKING in a 1980 issue. I still own the car and am planning to restore it." -Michiel Vanderpuijl

106. "Here's two more pacer pictures for your archives. The green one is just another picture of my junker and the kid is me also. I am planning to restore it with high performance parts. I don't know much about the yellow one. A friend gave me the picture." -Brandon Ankeny

Kyle Bedwell's Pacer Wagon
110. "This picture is of me and my '77 wagon at the hot rod power tour's stop in Joliet, IL. I got tons of comments on the car, mostly wanes world stuff, but some people actually gave me real compliments. Right now, my Pacer has the 232 with the automatic transmission. What you can't really see is the slick cow seat covers.

"However, I have some sad news. My grandparents gave me their old car for my graduation ('89 Plymouth Acclaim) it only has 35,000 miles on it so it has become my daily driver. My Pacer is now parked and waiting for me to restore it to better than new condition." -Kyle Bedwell

Their owners are very nice people, saying they don't want to get rid of the cars unless they sold them to me. I assured them if I got my hands on their cars I'd take the best care of them and never let them end up in a junk yard. They thought I was dedicated to the Pacer, which I am. Unfortunately since they live in Oregon and I live in New Jersey I had to let these go." -Shaun Boyd

Christophe Salvaing's Pacer
119. "When I was young my family lived in Paris and my father bought a Pacer for my mother. I remember the first time when I saw it: I was at school in Geneva and my mother come to pick me up with it. That was the 'Revolution' ;-) One year ago I saw a Pacer in the street and I'd completey forgotten this car. I'm looking for ads and found 10. I bought it in Deauville (Normandie) only 10000 francs ($2000). I've found Pacer book on AMC list. Parts are available in France (where the car has been imported for 5 years) and in Switzerland. I sent you a picture of it! (still with Belgian licence plates)." -Christophe Salvaing

Mauri's Pacer
Mauri's Pacer
122. "I am very happy to announce that I just bought one!!! It is a '77 all stock, in white with a blue interior. The guy I bought it from totally restored it.

"I first saw it around town (Cranbrook, BC), and I couldn't belive how mint it was, and one day I saw it parked in front of a house so I asked my girlfriend who was with me at the time to put a note on pacer to see if he would sell it. (I asked her to place the note from fear that some one would think I was trying to steal it, it's less intimidating that way). Anyhow, he called and said he would sell it, I went and had a look at it and it was amazing, the owner was an older man in his late 70's and he had done everything on it, plus he had a parts car. At the time we were driving around in a beater - 82 'VW Scirocco', which was driving us broke, every week it was something new that would break down on it, it even broke down on the highway on Christmas Eve. I put out an ad for it, the ad came out on Monday, I sold it on friday and bought the Pacer Saturday.

"We took it for a long drive and we love it. I am making a new dash console to fit my CD player. I am halfway done already." -Mauri

Hamburg Pacer
124. This is "a black-and-white photo of a shiny black AMC Pacer, although it's *sigh* not my own. I fell in love with the Pacer when I was visiting Florida as a five year old. Years later I saw a Pacer in my home town, Hamburg. I did not waste a minute, took a picture and never had to make awful drawings again when asked what my favourite car was. Now I'll refer people to the Pacer page...

"BTW: I never watched Wayne's World (shame on me), but that's because nobody told me it features a Pacer! ;)" -Alexander Svensson

Iceland Pacer
127. This picture comes from Hilmar Karlsson in Iceland. A friend of his bought the car a few years ago for the sole purpose of travelling across the country for a party. Unfortunately, he sold it in the spring of 1999... but notice the way-cool Wayne's World paint job!

P^3 and Tim Hansen's Pacers
131. "Things are kind of strange right now- my Pacer 'Emily' hasn't been driven since last October [1998]; it sits under a tarp in my backyard. But, this summer, a custom project is going to completely change it. I *was* going to restore, but the rust got sooo bad, it's either spend a fortune on a rebody or cut out all the bad metal and replace it. If we go stock, well, we don't have the skills to go stock. But, we can craft some wild fender flares. I have a buddy who wants to sheetmetal over the rear side windows (mine's a Wagon) and build a mini-panel-van out of it, and then build one of those car-stereo showcases in it. I said, OK, but only if we balance it to my tastes. (I'm not much for that ridiculous heavy bass sound. I'm one of a small but fervent group of midrange/treble fans...think early Talking Heads...hey, I drive....well....OWN a Pacer. You expect normalcy?) The first objective is to have it running. I hope to drive it to the NAMDRA meet in August down in Cordova, IL.

"Eventually, I want to find a nice '77 X coupe.

"Anyhow, I was digging through my photos, and found this one taken with Glen Hoag when he was out to get the stuff from my parts Pacers. This photo has four Pacers on my property at one time. The PX3 (P.acer P.age P.acer), my Emily, and the two parts cars, representing the whole range of Pacer development- '75-'79 (although the distinctive '79 hood had already been removed and packaged for shipping!)." -Tim Hansen

AMO Nationals Pacers
132. "This beige 1980 Pacer wagon (one of the last ones) was at the AMO Nat's last year in Kenosha, on the show field on Friday night. In the background is Emily, my '77 wagon." -Tim Hansen

134. "The [Pacer Page Pacer] and Emily in front of the now-closed-up building by the doors where all the Pacers ever made exited the factory to begin their round little lives." -Tim Hansen

Unrestored Wagon
Unrestored Wagon
136. "This is a 28,000 mile (or was it actual 2,800 mi?) original unrestored 1977 Pacer Wagon, quite possibly the nicest unrestored example of its type in the world. And again, a base model. Rather an uncommon thing with Pacers in comparison to the rest of the car hobby. It seems that only the most basic Pacers are the ones that are found in the best unrestored condition, whereas the '57 Bel Air kicked the crap out of its 210 counterpart for collectivity, and now, availability." -Tim Hansen
Fourth Prisk Pacer
137. "Last summer I FINALLY found that elusive Fourth Pacer at Prisk Auto. It's a red '75, and it's arguably the roughest of the four...only one with a broken window, trees growing through open doors just like the '78 Wagon, these cars have been there for over a decade. Does have a few good lenses and a saveable grille, + the remaining glass..." -Tim Hansen

P^3 and (P^3) Pat Petersen's Pacer
139. "That same tan Pacer in [the] archives owned by Pat Petersen:
I just bought this Pacer from an 86-year-old guy... It is a 1975 DL and has only 33,000 miles on it. It only sat outside 2 nights. Can you believe it?
....is pictured here with none other than the infamous Pacer Page Pacer at the AMC-list get-together at Ruffolo's Pizza in Kenosha. That 86-year-old-guy is none other than Fred Koos' grandfather, who still owned it at the time of the Kenosha event. Fred Koos is the president of Alamo AMC, the big AMO club in Texas and owner of multiple AMC vehicles." -Tim Hansen
Twins
Twins
Twins
Twins
Twins
140. "In the summer of 1997, Eddie Stakes referred a gentleman in Evansville, WI to me to try to find him a new Pacer after an accident. He and his wife, longtime Pacer enthusiasts, had a pair of Pacer wagons, a '79 and an '80, which they had restored and painted identically. The 1980 one had an extensive rust-repair and bodywork restoration done on it, using the last known NOS left front fender. The '80 was unfortunately the one involved in the particularly nasty crash. As he and a friend were slowing down to turn into their driveway, a car hit them from behind and pushed them directly into the path of an oncoming Ford Ranger, which hit them at 50+ miles an hour. There was not much left. I took these photos as a last reminder of the Twins. The '79 soldiers on still, looking for a new brother. Has to be a '79 or '80 with a tan interior. I wish I remembered the owners' names. It's been quite a while since then." -Tim Hansen
Zippy the Lovebug
141. "You know that Car Talk article about that couple that fell in love because of his Pacer? Well, this is that Pacer. Its name is Zippy, as stated in the article, and Bud and Bobbie are really interesting people. At the swapmeet, they offered to buy the factory console straight out of Emily for $75. I said no. I like my console. I may sell it now, however, as I'm scratchbuilding a new one for it. This photo was taken at Andy's Drive-In, where much AMC iron was displayed during the KTHF." -Tim Hansen
Laird Wetzel's Pacer
142. "Here's a shot of my Pacer wagon. I was able (at great personal expense) to save this brown wagon from an Austin dealer selling it to a certain death in a Mexican junkyard. It was worth every penny, though... It is the most fun car I've ever had!" -Laird "PacerFox" Wetzel
Ford Pacer!
143. "Check out this wild custom! It's a Pacer with the nose and tail of a '50 Ford! Slick! I got these photos from a gentleman in Arizona who I'm considering buying a mint '74 Matador and a 24' car trailer from. He's throwing in a FREE Pacer. I don't think it runs. Probably will just be a good parts car." -Tim Hansen
Keith Bryson's Pacer
Pacer envelope
144. From the snailmail bag: "In November of 1997, my beloved Pacer came into my life. I had been looking for one for about 2 years, and I had found three, but they were either [priced] too high or too rusty.

"I was driving through a town ten miles south of here, and I saw one sitting in the Public Housing Developments with a cardboard 'For Sale' sign on it. I [stopped], and an old woman with a wad of chewing tobacco in her lip answered the door. I asked 'how much for the Pacer?', and after a spit, she told me $400. I then [asked her] how she would like to own a car about 10 years newer instead of taking cash. So I went home and brought back a silver '85 Chevette. In other words, I now own a Pacer.

"It was in pretty sad shape. I've put in new carpet, tires, patched up the door panels, painted all of the interior trim, buffed the outside, and countless other things and troubles. I've since joined the Pacer Club, and I also run the AMC Matador Barcelona Registry through AMO." -Keith Bryson

Keith's Pacer "Flo" is a 1977 D/L coupe in Captain Blue Metallic, light blue interior. It's an automatic with power steering, power brakes, an 8-track player, A/C, automatic running lamps, a roof rack, basketry-weave seats with blue trim, and buttercup wheels.

Keith also owns a 1977 Matador Barcelona coupe.

The pictures to the left are Keith's Pacer and the awesome envelope in which he sent me the pictures and letter. Unfortunately, my mom, who was forwarding me my mail at the time, defaced it slightly.

Spring 1999 Jefferson swap meets Pacer
145. "This red Pacer was for sale at the Spring 1999 Jefferson swap meets in Jefferson, WI. Also the home of AMC mega-enthusiast Mike Spangler, Jefferson is a hotbed of AMC activity, and a Pacer or two routinely shows up at the swap meets." -Tim Hansen

147. "Here are some more from my visit with Brandon Ankeny in Blue Earth, MN. This one is the car that got him hooked on Pacers, a fully optioned '76 Coupe." -Tim Hansen
Charles and Pat Patterson's Pacer
148. "My wife and I are retired and we both owned Pacer Wagons [in a former life] over a decade ago.

"For the last 6 months or so we have been searching out another Pacer to restore, and 2 months ago, we found it. Not a bargain, but a low mileage minimal rust beauty.

"We have done all the mechanicals [springs, shocks, brakes, and then body work and painting.. I have included a photo, and once I have loaded them to my site, I will join the web ring so I can brag..[g]

"If you can make to Ocean Shores on the Olympic Peninsula at the end of July, I would be pleased to meet you. This will be my first 'showing' of our 1975 Pacer 232 I6, Auto. It still has some details missing, but we are happy with it. I moved out here [when I retired, and to get married] from the Toronto area, 6 years ago.. and haven't regretted it." -Charles Patterson

Editor's Note: I did, in fact meet Charles and Pat at the Ocean Shores meet, which is where I found Pacer #2!
