In 1986, my parents bought a van and began driving that more (due to the trouble of finding Pacer parts), and the Pacer became a winter car, because the Posi-Traction worked so good. The Pacer soldiered through 9 Michigan Winters until we sold it in 1993, and she was still in relatively good and solid condition then. Its current whereabouts are unknown." -Jason Bowler

"This is a photo of my 1977 Pacer, taken on the beach called Totoralillo which is located 25 km south of La Serena and 440 km north of Santiago. I have owned this vehicle since 25 November 1994 and on many occasions I have been told [asked] "why not sell it?" but I couldn't because it is like part of myself. I became enamoured of this car the first time I saw it in 1994, when it was owned by a colleague at work and her husband. They had been crazy for Pacers, having gotten to the point of having three of them: a white one (shown in photo), a blue one (which has been abandoned in a field near my house, completely destroyed and having only the body and side windows) and a yellow one which they bought from a hippie who lives in the valley of Elqui (120 km to the East of La Serena in a town named Pisco Elqui - I haven't gone to see it).
"When I was young (now I'm 30) I saw my first Pacer around 1978, it was owned by a dental surgeon who lives near my house. It's gray and has been kept in a very good condition to date, it's used daily, also there's a burgundy-colored one which I was at the point of buying but due the family pressure was great and I couldn't do it. This was about 6 months ago, although I would still like just as much to purchase it. In my city there is also a red one owned my a man who works in the public health department, though it's been a while since I've seen it operating (my city is not that large as we have a population of about 3,000). In another small city 60 km to the East of La Serena, named Vicuna, there were two Pacers at a dealer, one was violet but it was dismantled and there other one, which lacked a motor, was red. After browsing and getting to know so many of your pages dedicated to the Pacer I would like to take my camera and get photos of the Pacers in my region which if I am correct are no more than 4 or 5, also I'd like to make my own Pacer web page to contain these photos."

"However, since paint jobs are a simple, editable .TGA file, you can paint one of the game cars to look like one. I did this one based off their Pinto knockoff. Was not easy to get the Pacer's distinctive wrap-around windows. I have non-Mirth Mobile Pacers as well. It's a simple issue of messing with Photoshop." -Tim Hansen

"Buying this car was a totally irrational decision, yet I always loved driving it. It was comfortable, had a very good stereo on board, and the view through the large windows gave me the feeling I was looking at the world from a spaceship. And a beautiful world the Washington DC area was!
"I particularly like the picture of the the snow-covered front of the car in close-up. This picture enhances the unique shape of the car.
"It had some quality problems. The worst was bad low-speed driveability. The dealer couldn't fix it, so I ordered the factory manual and took the carburetor apart myself. I found shards of metal in the carburetor which must have fallen in when the carburetor was manufactured. After that the car drove flawlessly. Unfortunately, I was transferred back to The Netherlands shortly after that, and I sold the car to a young lady in the embassy. I was told later that she enjoyed the car very much and sold it when she too left a few years later. I wonder whether it still exists somewhere." -Emile Louzada (Leiden, The Netherlands)

"First phase. After my brother bought the Pacer we started to dismantle the interior and most parts in the front to remove rust. This picture was taken during the paint job I did on the floor of the Pacer in '93.
"New paint. This picture was taken during the paint job in '93. My brother wanted to change from G7 alpine white to G9 medium blue metallic. I’m going to change it back again.
"Winter storage. The first winter after my brother bought the Pacer we needed some sort of shelter. We built a wood frame with a tarpaulin around in the front yard of my parents house. If you look closely you see the headlight of the Pacer on the right side. It has been stored inside every winter thereafter with one exception.
"Out of winter storage. This picture was taken in the spring of '94 when me, my brother and his fiancée removed the winter storage. On white cars it is very easy to spot the bad places. Some welding has been done on the rear but more to come.
"Engine out. This picture was taken in October '98 when me and my friend removed the engine. We did struggle a bit to get it out. My friend took the picture of me before we lifted the rear of the transmission and cleared the car. (We are working outside my garage. Garages here are all too small for a wide car like the Pacer. While inside, it is only possible to open one door a foot. In the back you see our blue house.
"My '76 Pacer was bought in '77 by a neighbor. In '93 after the neighbor passed away and my brother bought it. Short time after we switched cars and I was a Pacer owner. After fixing the most urgent and needed things, I used the car for about a year mostly '94-'95 to and from university. It was then put aside for several years. I have now started with a restoration of the car but it will take some time.
"The Pacer appears to have been imported directly from US in '76 and not through any dealer in Norway. It is a '76 base model with only PS and disc brakes as extras. It has now reached the mileage of 56k."
"I believe this Pacer was sold new in the US because it has a speedo with miles, not kilometers, and as far as I know, only D/L models PS, PB, etc. were sold new in Norway. It also has a typical US dealer sign saying Ruckle Younkers. Has there been an AMC dealer with this name? I would guess that there are less than 25 Pacers in Norway."

The engine is a 468 cu. in. big block chevy, with a th350 auto trans, and a narrowed 9" Ford rear. In some respects I don't feel too badly about the other-than-AMC parts, because AMC used ford starting systems and Chrysler drivelines. The 232/252 were much like a chevy six cyl. Now that should get a scream from all the AMC purest buffs! I apologize. The car should (I hope) make the Northwest AMC gathering in August 2001.
"Stats: AMC Pacer 1976 Coupe 454 cu. in engine bored, 60k miles TH. 350 Transmission (shift kit) 9" Ford narrowed posi rear (3.70 gears) Tubbed 40 inches of tire on the ground (Mickey Thompsons) Roll bar Full interior/ 6 way leather power seats PPG Paint / Tangerine Pearl Translucent Graphics by John Race (free hand) "I have already taken many jest filled statements. No one can believe it's a street car. This car was built for under $10,000 dollars. In today's hot rod market it is practically unbelieveable. I'm amazed more people haven't found there way to these little wide boys! They offer comfort, style, stability, visibility and you can design anything you want wagon, pickup, convertible or coupe. Best of all it not a Ford or Chevy, which are in abundance. I know; I also have other street rods. By the way, in 1975 I bought my first Pacer, in Old Bridge, NJ -- cost $3500."

It is now complete, and I have won several awards with it at some local shows and was invited to bring it to a show put on by Sears, in north Spokane, WA. I've also been selling parts from the six Pacers it took to build mine. To assist in recalling my car it is a 1976 formerly a D/L-model coupe. It is now powered by a 468 cu.in Chevrolet Big Block, backed by a TH-350 trans, and a narrowed 9'in Ford posi-rear end. I have 40 inches of rear tire on the ground. The paint is PPG-Tangerine Pearl Translucence, the graphics are done by a local artist, the paint and interior by me." -Robert

It is perfectly painted in maple red, with maple red interior. it had the 258 cui 6 inline with non-overdrive transmission. The engine ran perfectly, but the transmission didn't wanted to stop the car when we wanted, lol. So, the car waited for about 2 years without driving. About 2 years ago we found a '78 pacer V8 in silver/red. the body was so rusty I have never seen it before, but the engine ran like new. So we took the red Pacer and the silver one, and....??? Silver V8+ red 258 = 1976 perfect Pacer 304 V8, the only one in Germany, ha! You can see it for yourself on the pics. We didn't just changed the transmission... the complete underside is painted, matching the body's color."
