302. "I would like to show you my Pacer, which I bought in 1977. I am from the Montreal area in Canada. My Pacer was the best car I ever had. As you can see, it was a two-tone, black and silver/grey. Beautiful :-). I had to let it go in '82. It was 5 years old, and with harsh winters, I started to change parts, and with a new baby in the family, I did not want to get stuck, so changed for a new car. A Honda Civic 5-door -- talk about a big change." -Denis Patenaude

Greg's Pacer
Greg's Pacer
303. "I'll give you a little history on this car: I just recently purchased it from the original owner, a gentleman that had bought it for a second car to drive while they wintered in Tucson. They are from Wisconsin. They bought the car in Wisconsin, and had it there the first year and then brought it to Tucson, where it has been since. It has been garaged all of its life, so everything is in good shape. The paint is original, the Vinyl top is nice, good color, and not dried out. The dash is not cracked either. Seats are great. It, of course, is not a 'perfect' car, but probably one of the most optioned / original condition ones around anywhere.

"I originally purchased it for my second son, who will start driving next fall. I have an 18-year-old boy that already has a excellent, low-mileage '75 Valiant (V8/AC/CD strereo) that he likes better than the Pacer. My second son is not really crazy about the car either -- to young, I suppose, for the Wayne's World thing. Anyway, since he doesn't care if he drives the Pacer, I thought I'd just re-sell it & get him something else this summer." -Greg (FLaMe1951)

Updated 11 May 2004: "I did sell the Pacer. It went to Kansas. A dentist there bought the car for his son that was in his first year in college. The car made quite a hit on campus & was photographed with a ton of kids in it for the college yearbook."

He says: "I've had this car since I turned 16 in 1987. I'm building a 360 motor for it, and it already had a 411 rear-end in it -- it was a very fast car. I had a magazine it was in, but when I was going through a divorce, she threw it away..."

"It is so funny how modern society either has no idea what kind of car these are, or remembers thinking how ugly they were back then, yet loves them now. I have owned this car for many years, and it still kills me to see the people in the car next to you in a state of confusion and wonder. I have many fond Pacer memories, as I am sure you do as well. Today we went out and took photos of it and asked friends what it could be. Finally we found out that it was a AMC Pacer. American cars are rare here, especially old ones. The car had the usual rust areas and the bodywork was completed in early 2000. The car has 57,000 miles. The interior was nearly spotless except for the carpet which will be part of an interior detailing project. Recently I was finally able to find a set of AMC rims which really has changed the overall look of 'Suavito.'" -Albert Leemhuis

324. "Short story: When I was around 15 years old, the new AMC Pacer was introduced to the market. I wanted one so badly! I wanted it to be my 'sweet 16' car, but alas, my father was helping me with the purchase and he did not like them ('piece of junk' is what he called it). So, (many moons later) in December 2002, when I was thinking about getting a new car, I ran across a picture in my old High School scrap book of a Pacer that I cut from an ad and decided to hunt one down. I found one close to me in TN, drove up to see it and ended up driving it home! After much work (I did most of it myself), I proudly entered it in the Oct. 2003 SE Regional AMO show in Atlanta and took a Silver Award! I feel great knowing that I could "save one" from the crusher and drive a lasting tribute to the designers of such a neat little automobile.

"My Pacer Stats:
Model: 1975 AMC Pacer D/L Coupe
Engine: 258 cid IL 6
Transmission: Automatic on column

Notes: Original AMC Car Building Order from Kenosha, WI plant found under back seat bottom during restoration!" -Luinda Kooker, Montgomery, Alabama

Snowplow Scout Pacer
330. "My pacer is sitting on an int. scout frame and is Chevy powered. Its powerplant is a Chevy 283 V-8, which came out of a piece of military equipment. It was totally submersible when I got the motor. It's not submersible anymore, as some parts had to be replaced. I installed a 7.5-foot Western snow plow on it around 1985. It really pushes the snow with that V-8 and some nice aggressive tires.

"A lot of people have asked me, 'Why a Pacer?' I think it looks cool, and I built it when I was 21. I've had it for 23 years and only put on about 5000 miles, most of them plowing snow. It has had a hard life. Still looks good, sounds awesome, and is an eye catcher." -Michael (Gonz)

'76 VAM Pacer
336. "My name is Mauricio Jordán Márquez and I am from the city of Guadalajara, in western central Mexico. Photography is one of my hobbies, and part of it is to catch AMCs on picture if I have the chance. I have gotten some VAM Pacer pictures that I want to share. One 1976 Pacer and a 1978 / 1979 one.

"I hope you like these. Both cars are in excellent shape; only the 1976 one has some issues. Both rear quarter panels are slightly dented, it has missing the short passenger-side moulding, and some little interior loose parts. Both cars have automatic tansmission on the column. None of the owners knew what engine the cars have, but the late model one is likely to have the 258 six or maybe even the 282.

"And now for some info, VAM introduced the Pacer for Mexico in 1976. Only the coupe model was available through the whole run, and like the rest of the product line there never was the V8 option, but it still got the raised hood and grille in 1978. The last year of the Mexican Pacer was 1979, the sales of that year were of just 619 units. Also in 1979, the limited edition X model was available. It was oriented towards luxury and performance; it came with a semi-high performance modified 282 six cylinder along with Air Conditioning, automatic transmission, sunroof (most of them), among other options, and only 250 units were available.

"If I ever am lucky enough to find one, I am planning a very costly and ambitious customization job. Mostly for the skin and surface of the car (paint, chrome, glass), mechanically so far I will only add a dual exhaust." -Mauricio Jordán Márquez, Guadalajara, Mexico

'77 D/L wagon owned by Eddie Stakes for a time
346. "Here is a photo of an original owner, low mile 1977 Pacer wagon I bought at the Houston AutoRama auction about 1993. It is a factory vinyl roof vehicle. Not a whole lot of Pacer owners opted for the vinyl roof. The car went through the auction at the Astrodome Autorama, was a original owner and no one bid on it for starting bid of $600; I guess mainly to the auctioneers jumping up and down on the front and rear bumpers yelling 'Wayne's World!!' at the top of their lungs. Who would want to bid on something like that? Well, me. But not then, I waited until the car had been run thru the auction two days in a row with no bids, then went up to the office and asked the promoter if he would consider $600 for it, he didn't bat a eye and said, 'hell, yes' and I was the new owner of a mint 77 Pacer wagon, 258, AT, AC, PS, PDB, tint, tilt, towing package, AM/FM, sport rims, vinyl roof. I drove it from 62K to 70K miles before selling it for $2500 to a fellow in Tennessee." -Eddie Stakes
